BIG KEV
GIVEBACK
2026
June 26
Who is Big Kev?
Kevin “Big Kev” Weems was more than an athlete. He was a father, mentor, coach, community servant, and steady presence in the lives of young people across Topeka. A former Washburn basketball player, Kevin believed that “to whom much is given, much is required,” and he lived that belief through the way he served his family, schools, teams, neighbors, and community.
Whether he was coaching young athletes, mentoring kids, chaperoning school field trips, working at Meadows Elementary, or sharing vegetables from his garden, Kevin showed up for people. His heart for Topeka and his belief in giving back helped inspire the Big Kev Giveback Sports Camp — a camp created to honor his legacy by showing young people the positive pathways sports can create.
